It’s been WAY too long! I was distracted but God has His arms out waiting on me to return. So, what’s love got to do with it? Well, God is love and since God is everything, that pretty much sums it up. There are TONS of scriptures about love, whether implicitly or explicitly, but I have a few favorite I keep on my wall such as: 1 Corinthians 13:13 “And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love,” Psalm 143:8 “Cause me to hear Your lovingkindness in the morning, For in You do I trust; Cause me to know the way in which I should walk, For I lift up my soul to You,” and Matthew 5:44 “But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you.” Whew! That last one is DEEP. I’m still working on that one myself. Of course, there’s the ever so “popular” 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. This verse is used SO OFTEN but not usually for the right reason nor in the right context. God has really begun to check me about that. So, a few months ago as I was writing scriptures on my wall, God instructed me to write this scripture but as if it represents me. It reads, “Elena suffers long and is kind; Elena does not envy; Elena does not parade herself, she’s not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek her own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” Have you been looking for a heart check? I dare you to try it and meditate on it. The more you write it, recite it, and put it in the atmosphere, the more your mind and heart will truly begin to line up with it.

Similar to the “Random Acts of Kindness,” I completed “25 Acts of Love” for my 25th birthday. I used this title for 2 reasons: the acts weren’t random and I didn’t want people to feel kindness; I wanted people to feel genuine care and concern for their lives. I wanted them to feel God’s love and know He’s thinking of them not because of who they are, not because of who I am but ONLY because of who He is. This experience humbled my spirit in such an amazing way. It reassured me of my purpose and stirred up my passion and fire to use the gifts He’s given me. From taking cookies to the fire station to assisting pregnant moms, God showed me the effects of obedience. In one instance, I gave out an encouraging card just casually as I had done everything else. Little did I know, God had told her that EXACT thing that morning! You can’t tell me God isn’t real. You can’t tell me God doesn’t love us. He loves her, just like each of us, SO MUCH that He wanted to go ahead and confirm His word that day so she would be assured.

Now, I do have some heartbreaking news. NO ONE on this Earth can love you like God. NOTHING on this Earth will fill that hole that’s yearning for His love. That man, that woman, that child, those clothes, that house, that car, and anything else will fulfill you. Unconditional…. This means even when we lie, cheat, disobey, yell, run, stray, and EVERYTHING else, He’s saying, “Come on home my daughter. Come on home my son.” I break down every time I think about it! I’m so undeserving and so many people feel the same YET He thinks we’re enough. Guess what? YOU ARE! In your ugliest of times and worst of days, your Father is just waiting on you to come back to Him, confess and repent your sins, and truly seek His kingdom and righteousness. He’s not punishing you. YOUmade the choice to get in that car. YOU made the choice to lay in that bed. YOU made the choice to pick up that bottle. I did the same until I realized ALL THOSE THINGS were being used to fill voids and it STILL wasn’t getting the job done. Then, what did He do? He worked it together for my good! In a world filled with hate and sorrow, don’t you want to feel this?? Even if you don’t know it, I can tell you that you do. Once you do, you’ll do everything in your power to “love your neighbor as you love yourself” and “love your enemies” even when it hurts. Why? He did it for us! We’re NOWHERE near perfect but we should strive to be more like Him. You can’t do it alone so stop trying. He’s the only True and Living God. He’s the ONLY ONE who can save your soul and fill those empty spaces. He’s the beginning and the end. Don’t you want to spend eternity with someone like that?! Tomorrow isn’t promised and yesterday is gone but you have today. So, get to it!
